The light passes through me from skin to bone, passes from organ to cell— the masses blooming under the MRI field, edges thickening, shadows reaching inward, stranded tips bending towards yellow haustra turning grain.
The appendices stay white but the shadows dart from ascent to descent— black creeping from each cell clouding another shadow covering shadow, as the slices stack, the signal thins to a faint echo of itself.
