A Night of Rain

A Night of Rain

Your still life:

A bird holds tight
to the quivering limb
of our lemon tree,

watching you
tuck your hair
behind your ear
as you lean closer
to its small, bright sound.

Through the window
I see the rain
shake loose from the leaves,
removing you.
