Late January Arrives

Late January Arrives

My dog barks
at the vanishing hare
that shatters the snow’s stillness.

Swaddled in fleece,
my eyes drift towards the prints
that lead to the edge of its preserve.

The full moon stands over the treeline,
rising early in the sinking daylight,
catching on the frost.
