The Blind Man’s Spot

My hands touch
the flagstones
of your tomb.

In this world of
persistent shadows
my feet go numb
walking to this spot.

I hear the wind
scuff the white
granite all around
ossifying the
dirt, blood, stone
below into
my nostrils
and lungs.

I sit on
the bench
near you
almost seeing
the specter
of birds
stopping their
prolong flight
into the coming
stillness of night trees,

never really knowing
if they safely reached
the quiet branches
above.
