I Know the Night and Sky

I have cried,
I have grieved
and therefore I have loved.

I have twinned my existence:
once in the joy of life and
the other in the nacre of cancer.

I have seen death, known it’s
slow, sad and sometimes violent approach
through the collapse of everything alive-

how it roams throatless,
holds tight,
then lets go.

if there is no heaven full of sunbeams
then there is no hell of fire and night,
just the thread of my and your silence and hunger.

I am nothing but the wheel
on the black road
grinding it to dust

to be flung
to the night
and stars.
