Core Curriculum

The core curriculum

downplays music, the arts,

how to read and feel a poem,

stresses STEM and how

to zigzag to avoid a bullet,

basic life survival skills.

Wouldn’t it better be

for them to experience

an Ode to Joy, the Magic Flute,

know they share the same

darkness in Hamlet’s heart,

and the quiet of a snowy evening?

Teach them both math and

the arithmetic of self worth

the stem of life, love and pain

curriculum them all with kindness

so that not even one of them

will think of the bullet and the gun.
