Deadpool’s peaceful existence comes crashing down when the Time Variance Authority recruits him to help safeguard the multiverse. He soon unites with his would-be pal, Wolverine, to complete the mission and save his world from an existential threat.
REVIEW:

Deadpool and Wolverine works nicely when the Merch with the Mouth (Ryan Reynolds as always) does the things he’s good at: wisecracking and fighting.

The director Shawn Levy, tries to add Meta to the list but that only goes as far Deadpool being aware that he’s a brand that is managed and owned by several corporate entities. Fans are gong to love his acrid riffs on the state of all things MCU, Disney and 20th Century Studios (nee Fox). That hyper aware smarm gets old half way through the movie though.

So Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is added to the mix to bring the movie over the expected astronomical box office line. Wolverine graces D&W with both a straightman and an endless fight coordinator. Because these two have regenerative powers they can fight and kill each other ad infinitum. And when the meet cute part of this buddy comedy is over, they can kill other regeneratives add infinitum. And when they run out of those, than Deadpool can kill endless variations of himself. D&W loves going to infinity and beyond.

A plot is almost unnecessary. Just add endless alternative timelines to give it that multiverse feel. Bring back some cannon fodder character fans feels were denied their sequels. Jennifer Garner’s Elektra gets a reprieve. Wesley Snipe as Blade reincarnates to the biggest fan applause and grand noble faux death (pool) end. Chris Evans as Johnny Storm provides some epic payback for the only character added because he’s in the required post credit scene.

Reprise some generative and now regenerative villains that include Channing Tatum as Gambit, and the meta biggie of them all Emma Corrin as the aptly named prescient regenerative and brightly burning femme fatale star Cassandra Nova.

It’s all Marvel’s way of saying sorry not sorry about all those confusing multiverse sequels, prequels and NyQuils. Sorry not sorry for all the characters it hyped and abandoned. Sorry not sorry that it gave us the Avengers, exploited them to the point that the series became stale and musty as constantly worn and unwashed socks and underwear.

Sorry not sorry that Disney gobbled up 20th Century Fox. And maybe sorry truly sorry for not buying up the Fox behemoth including the tv company and the egregious Fox News Network- and ending with it, the extremist right that gaves us the horrors. of Donald Trump as President and the Evil Empire that aspires to destroy our democracy and the free world.

Deadpool and Wolverine gets a 3.5/5 or aB+.
