Raise the Red Lantern, Take Down the Blue Lantern

Image: Painting by Lee Weng Fatt

The wooden shutters must be flung open
to scatter the doves on the ledge to the sky.

Hang up that red lantern long reserved for all.
Put it in the brightest spot to release the most joy.

Take down that old blue lantern put up on the eaves
when Mǔqīn (Mother) flower began to wilt in winter.

for today, she has joined all our ancestors!
