A crush of light all around
churned the still waves into
cumulonimbus clouds.
Behind them, the grass
withered to molten gold.
In front, the sun exploded
to a yellow mushroom, hiding
all the green in between
from their fearful eyes.
in these moments,
they knew their life
together was over.
