MOVE INFO VIA ROTTEN TOMATOES:

SHE CAME TO ME is a truly modern romantic comedy, a multi-generational love story set against the iconic backdrop of New York: A composer suffering from creative block finds inspiration after a chance encounter with an unusual woman, a couple of bright teenagers fight to prove to their parents that young love can last forever, and for a successful therapist who seemingly has it all, love arrives in the most unexpected of ways.

REVIEW:

The question of wether an artist or composer should fall in love with his unintended muse is at the center of She Came to Me romantic story.

Vertical Entertainment

Peter Dinklage is the blocked composer , Steven who is seeking inspiration for his latest opera.  Marisa Tomei is the tugboat captain, Katrina with a romance addiction, whose one night stand  inspires Steven to write the female version of Sweeney Todd, with a respectable amount of Lizzie Borden thrown in for melodramatic sizzle- axes making such sweet music. Anne Hathaway is the psychiatric therapist, Patricia, the understanding clean freak wife with a predilection to nunneries. Ego (Steven), id (Katrina) and superego (Patricia) will collide and sort their practical accommodations.

Vertical Entertainment

Somehow it all comes together in a semi-screwball way to make an awkward bit of music and a passable romantic comedy about the process of reconciliation of the emotional mind.  Buoyed by a score from Bryce Dessner of the rock band The National, an original Bruce Springsteen song and the director, Rebecca Miller getting well modulated performances from the all-in cast, She Came to Me creates a luminous aura.

Vertical Entertainment

A subplot involving a first love between Steven’s and Patricia’s adopted high school son, Julian (Evan Ellison) and the daughter, Teresza (Harlow Jane) of their housemaid, Magdalena (Joanna Kulig, in a soulful turn) that involves  the jealous machinations of Tereza’s stepfather, Trey (Brian D’Arcy) an anal retentive court reporter with a Civil War re-enactor obsession, acts as comedic plot device to bring together artist and muse into a lifetime collaboration by film’s end.

Vertical Entertainment

The young beloveds provide the film with a needed and surprising equilibrium.
